A francia mérnökök felmérése szerint a motorosok – a futásteljesítmény mellett – az új és kopott állapotban is elérhető remek tapadást, illetve az ebből fakadó rövid féktávot tartják az egyik legfontosabb erénynek, ezért ilyen tekintetben is sokat fejlesztettek az elődökhöz mérten.

Kitartó munkájuk eredményeként a Road 5 több mint ötezer kilométer után is képes olyan rövid féktávra, mint a korábbi tesztgyőztes előd, a Road 4 újonnan. Természetesen a száraztapadásról sem feledkeztek meg, és a jól bevált 2CT technológiát fejlesztették tovább 2CT+-ra, mégpedig oly módon, hogy a középrészben található kemény keverék – mely az abroncs hosszú futásteljesítményét biztosítja – bekerült a vállrészeken található lágy keverékek alá, így sokkal stabilabbá vált a gumi a gyors kanyarokban és az agresszív kigyorsításoknál. Ugyanakkor, ha már „lapon van”, rendíthetetlenül követi az ívet, szóval, ahogy motoros körben mondanák: ezt bizony ívre kell tenni.
